Tesla Model Y, VS Hyundai Ionic5

Tesla Model y is being unveiled for the first time in Korea at the Tesla Gallery, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 has also released teaser images and teaser videos. In the case of Model y, it seems to have become a hot topic only by revealing the vehicle without any separate marketing as it is a car that has been very interested. On the other hand, Ioniq 5 had a lot of interest in Korea in terms of being a domestic electric vehicle, and it was expected that it was a vehicle to which an innovative e-GMP platform was applied.

In the teaser video, I think that V2L presented a picture of electricity supply, suggesting a new environmental change in outdoor life in Korea. With this topic, several articles in Korea gave out reports comparing the two models. Based on this, I will try to organize it. First of all, Tesla Model y will be based on Model 3. It is optional but can accommodate up to 7 people, and the 15-inch screen allows you to control driving information, autopilot, navigation, audio and air conditioning systems.

The advantage of Tesla is also its long mileage and fast charging. The mileage measured in Korea came out up to 511km, and it is said that it can run 270km when charged for 15 minutes.

 

In the case of Ionic 5, only teaser images have been released, but it is possible to compare Model y and Ioniq 5 to some extent with some specifications leaked. Of course, if the specification is opened after the release of Ionic 5, you will be able to compare it with more accurate information. But now, there is no choice but to compare only with some leaked specs. In terms of horsepower, the Ioniq 5 has 308 horsepower or 313 horsepower, and the model y long range is 384 horsepower and its performance is 456 horsepower. In terms of horsepower, the Tesla Model y is better regardless of the trim.

In the case of the zeroback, the Ionic 5 is 5.2 seconds, the model y is 5.1 seconds, and the performance is 3,7 seconds. Performance will be the ultimate spec. Both models are dual motors and have the same four-wheel drive. It is known that Ioniq 5 is divided into two types of batteries: normal and long range.

 

The general battery is 58kwh and the long range is 73kwh. Model y is 75kwh the same as long range or performance. The mileage can also be divided according to the battery capacity. The mileage of the Ionic 5 general 58kwh battery is 450km based on WLTP, and the long range 73kwh battery has a mileage of 550km. Model y's long range is 505kw and performance is 480km.

It is not easy to directly compare the battery charging speed with data. The IONIC 5 charges up to 80% in 18 minutes, and the Model Y runs about 270 km in 15 minutes.

The overall length of the 4,750mm model y is larger than the 4,640mm Ionic. The width and height of the model y are also 1920mm and 1626mm, respectively. As for the wheelbase, the 3000mm Ioniq 5 is bigger than the 2,891mm model y. According to the specifications, the wheelbase of 3000mm is almost longer than the Palisade. The Mojave wheelbase is 2,895mm, and the Palisade's wheelbase is 2,900mm. Carnival wheelbase is 3090mm.

 

Looking at the differentiation point, Ioniq 5 seems to be a more recent model, so it seems that there is a part that is ahead. First of all, the solar roof seems to be representative. There is no specific specification open, but it is expected that solar roof will be installed in various media. The weather may be affected, but basically, when driving during the day, a vehicle equipped with a solar roof is expected to run longer.

And although it became a hot topic in the teaser video, V2L technology seems to be representative. V2L is Vehicle to Load, which means that electric power is supplied from the vehicle to general electric products. It is a concept that can supply electricity from the outdoors, and can also charge other electric vehicles in case of an emergency. It serves as its own ESS energy storage device. The supply power is about 3.5kw, and it is said that a 17-pyeong air conditioner or a 55-inch TV can be operated 24 hours a day. It is expected to come out armed with various other cutting-edge technologies.

In the case of Model y, it is already on sale overseas. In the case of Model y, there are standard, long range, and performance types, and it is known that there are two types of trims: long range and performance released in Korea. Based on the US selling price, the long range is $499.9 million (about 54.8 million won) and the performance is $59,990 (658 million won).

 

In China, production is carried out at the Shanghai plant, and the selling price is 52,400 dollars, which is about 57.9 million won. The sale began because it was lower than the actual known price. In order to obtain subsidies in the domestic market, it remains to be seen whether there is a price adjustment for Model 3 as well as Model Y.

 

However, in order to enter the popularization of electric vehicles, Tesla and Hyundai Motors must solve various problems. Tesla has a problem with the unfair terms and conditions, and whether it is an exaggerated advertisement for semi-autonomous driving is under investigation. There was also a fire death incident after the crash. Of course, it is under investigation. It is said that a preliminary investigation was undertaken in the United States as to whether there was a sudden blast. In the case of Hyundai Motor Company, the Kona fire incident was a problem and a recall was taken. According to data released by the Fire Department, there were 69 total electric vehicle fire accidents from 2017 to November 2020. Of these, about 58% of 40 cases were said to be electrical factors. Other mechanical factors and unknown causes were reported as 14.5% each. Considering that electric vehicles with technological superiority have been the mainstream so far, I think that in the future Korean market, models and companies that provide stability and prioritize customer satisfaction will lead the market in the future.
